LTBA Scholarship Recipient, Nola Parker Named Miss LSUA

Nola Parker, who was a 2013 LTBA Scholarship winner was crowned 2017 Miss LSUA, April 22. Parker is a senior from Dry Prong and is majoring in Communication Studies.

Nola is a racing fan and frequent racetrack visitor who follows friends’ horses at Louisiana Downs, Evangeline Downs and Delta Downs. She expressed her gratitude to the LTBA saying of the scholarship, “It is a true blessing to get a scholarship which has helped make it possible to pursue my education.” Nola won one of two $1,000 scholarships awarded by drawing at the 2013 Louisiana Cup Races. The LTBA awards ten scholarships a year; two at Louisiana Premier Night at Delta Downs in February; two at Louisiana Legends Night at Evangeline Downs in July; two at Louisiana Cup Day at Louisiana Downs in August; and four at Louisiana Champions Day at Fair Grounds in December.

 

An outstanding young lady, Parker who is visually impaired will be attending the 2017 University Scholars Leadership Symposium in Thailand, a Humanitarian Affairs conference. In January 2018, she will be representing the Louisiana Federation of the Blind in Washington DC to advocate for legislation to benefit the visually impaired and blind community.

Two Scholarships to be Awarded at Louisiana Premier Night

VINTON, La. – Louisiana Premier Night will take place on Saturday, February 11, at Delta Downs Racetrack Casino & Hotel in Vinton, LaThe Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association will award a total of two (2) scholarships, each valued at $1,000, during the event.
The requirements for the scholarship are as follows:
·      Must be a college student enrolled full-time for Spring 2017.
·      Must be in good standing with the college or university.
·      Must be present to win.
 
Registration: 4:40 p.m. – 5:40 p.m. at the designated booth 
Races begin: 5:40 p.m.
Drawing time: The scholarships will be awarded after the fifth race
 
The scholarship will be deposited directly into the student’s account at the college or university. The student is asked to know the name and address of the college that they are attending.

Two Scholarships to be Awarded at Louisiana Premier Night

VINTON, La. – Louisiana Premier Night will take place on Saturday, February 11, at Delta Downs Racetrack Casino & Hotelin Vinton, La. The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association will award a total of two scholarships, each valued at $1,000, during the event. The races begin at 5:40 p.m. Students must sign up between 4:40 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. at the designated registration booth to be entered into the drawings.
The drawings will take place after the fifth race, and the student must be present to win. To qualify for the drawing, the student must be enrolled full-time in the Spring 2017 semester and must be in good standing with the college or university. The student is asked to know the address and name of the college they are attending so the scholarship can be directly deposited into their account.
            Delta Downs has hosted this event for the past six years. This year there is $850,000 dollars in total purse money. The featured championship race has a $150,000 guaranteed purse, with Fruition Racing LLC’s Stormdriver winning last year’s race. This annual event features ten races with the first race starting at 5:40 p.m.

Six Scholarships to be Awarded at Louisiana Champions Day

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Louisiana Champions Day will take place on Saturday, December 10, at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in New Orleans, La. The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots will award a total of six scholarships, each valued at $1,000, during the event. The races begin at 12:30 p.m., with sign up for the drawings starting at 11:30 a.m. The students must sign up between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the designated registration booth to be entered into the drawing. The registration times were extended to ensure as many students are signed up for the drawing as possible.
 
The drawings will take place after the fifth, sixth, and seventh races, where two scholarships will be awarded after each race. To qualify for the drawing, the student must be enrolled full-time in the Spring 2017 semester, must be in good standing with the college or university, and must be present to win. The student is asked to know the address and name of the college so the scholarship can be directly deposited into their account.

(New Orleans, La.) – Louisiana Legends Night will take place Saturday, July 2, at Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino in Opelousas, La. The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association will award two (2) scholarships, each valued at $1,000, during the event.
The drawings will be between the fifth and sixth races. The races begin at 5:50 p.m. and the student must be there to register between 4:50 p.m. and 5:50 p.m. at the designated registration booth.
The requirements for the scholarship are as follows:
·       Must be a college student enrolled full-time for Fall 2016.
·       Must be in good standing with the college or university.
·       Must be present to win.
